opti or ICM?
I replace the sensor, take it out for a little test drive and it runs flawless... just before my shop, there's a restaurant with a leaking sprinkler head and theres always a little stream of water across the street. Naturally, I nail it as I go through the water (every day), get it sideways a bit and pull up to the shop. Just as I come to a stop and put it in reverse to back into my spot, it starts running rough again... even worse as I back up.
On the drive home, I'd guess it ran a good 80% better with an occasional miss at each red light. As I get home, I put it in reverse to back into the driveway and again, it starts shaking, missing, acting a fool...
This morning, I cranked it and immediately it was running rough all the way to work
? I guess an Opti is the next step with plugs and wires...
How many miles are on the car? My car was doing something similar and it turned out that it had the original plugs and wires in it,
after that it ran a hell of a lot better. Also do you still smell gas? That could be a leak somewhere.

It is actually a very accurate method of timing, just the optical sensors are delicate and sensitive to mositure. Whoever at GM thought it was a good idea to put it behind the water pump is a complete nimrod and should be sterlized. That is probably the absloute worst spot they could have put it IMO, but hey, their car designers for a reason an I'm not for a reason I guess.
Luckily my buddy has a set of block off plates so we 'll try that this weekend
