Cat gone..options
Cat gone..options Just got confirmation that my driver's side catalytic converter on my 97 is bad. To have a shop do it, cost would be $600. I have stock manifold/exhaust (except muffler) so what are my options, other than going with a straight pipe? Is it worth going with a high flow cat and if so, would I have to replace both sides? Would one of the cheaper universal cats work? Any cheap places for OEM cats? Ebay?
I was also told that I could keep driving it without any issues, Is this true?

Do you have any inspections/emissions testing? If not then I would delete both cats. If you just have a visual then throw some fake cats on, or something that looks like a cat.

Ditching the cats wouldn't be a problem. If you feel you MUST have them, get magnaflow highflows.

I called Walker and they said any bullet cat would do, a local muffler shop had one in stock - $350 installed, no O2 needed, car fixed, turns out cat was beat up inside and the car actually runs a "little" better now.
