Default What to do?

I need some help on what I should do, I bought a 95 lt1 a4 with the plan of rebuilding it and putting in a cc503.. Both head gaskets were blown and come to find out, the block was overheated ALOT. So the machine shop I took it too is charging $1200 if I want to rebuild it, and ~$400-/+ for pistons...

Now my question is would I be better off just parting this car out and getting my money back, then looking for a low mileage lt1 and making payments on it? Here's a must have on my current lt1 if I plan on keeping it:

full exhaust and headers(cut mine to hell), tires, all front suspension, stall, paint job, some body work, and the engine rebuild..

So im looking at $3.5k in the motor if i rebuild + the other parts, and I can find a decent lt1/ls1 for around 8k

Is it possible to find a cheap lt1 block that don't need any major machine work done to it?

I need help guys i've been trying to decide on this but can't, Im also on a budget and my current lt1 will be down for another year unless i can find a block that don't need much work... or find a nicer lt1

Sorry about the shi**y writing skills

If your car needs that much work inside and out, just sell what you can and buy a different one. No sense in putting that much $ into the motor if you do keep it, just buy an LT1 motor and swap it... OR do a 5.3 swap and turbo it or cam it and make more power than an lt1 still.

YOu can build a nice motor and put it in an LT1 car for 8k. But then its more personal to you because you put what you wanted into it. At least thats the way I think I'll never buy "somebody elses" project. But you can find LT1 with knocks and stuff for ceahp and just use the block. and maybe make it a 355

He's absolutely correct, that's the wonderful thing about LT1's. You can get them cheap. I personally know a guy selling a fully assembled lt1 for 750.

Must be nice, 'round these parts they go for $1000-$1500 for the motor, never seen a shortblock for sale... and I've looked. I'd imagine a shortblock going for $500 though.
