Default Head gasket and Timing Set

Which head gaskets would you run with a stock lt1 with le3 heads?

Also which timing set?

impy's if you want to bump up the compression a bit.
Are you going with a EWP, if so any quality dual roller will work.

An LT1 is far from stock with LE3 heads. Clarify. If there's any sort of higher compression/power, I'd use Cometic MLSs.

Timing set depends on what you're using for a water pump, and whether or not you've got a vented opti.

Vented opti, EWP, and a 95 timing cover = Cloyes 3145 double roller, hands down.

pretty sure you have to fly cut stock pistons or use aftermarket pistons with bigger valve reliefs for LE3s.

Man now. I am lost. Been told that with le3 heads and the cc503 cam it would be ok and then some say it can't be done on stock pistons. Guess I am going to call Lloyd tomorrow and clarify. Which MLS Gasket thickness should I get if these heads will work and also I do want to run a EWP. The motor is a 96 so I don't know if the opti is vented or not.

96s and 97s have the provision for the CKP sensor. You can use either cover, but you'll have to find a way to plug the provision. Ideally, the 95 cover is the best to use.

Also, I don't know why you'd use LE heads with an off-the-shelf cam. Why not go with whatever LE recommends?

I'll never understand how saving a few bucks can be more important in a build than achieving or even surpassing your goals.

I paid $250 for the ls7 lifters and cam which are new. Can't beat that IMO.

Maybe, maybe not. You never know. I know it would be much easier (and far less guesswork) if you had a custom grind designed to do what you want.

Like I said, I don't understand how saving $$$ can be more important than reaching your goals, especially when spending a bit more would ensure it. JMHO.

I may end up doing that. My goals were a clayton forged short block but 3k is alot to fork out when I have a running lt1 now. May just sell the cam and build another motor on a stand.
