What piston rings should I go with?

Ordered the pistons for my 383 but still trying to decide which piston rings to go with. Motor will be about 12.9-1 CR and have a 200-300 shot on it.

Also what oil pans are you liking?

Wicked94Z 12-20-2010 07:47 PM

I use TS Max Seal gapless tops with standard napier seconds. Std tension oil for the street (HV pump, loose motor)

Wicked94Z 12-20-2010 07:48 PM

i have a canton with the silly stock screen removed, and i put a cheap milodon or moroso or someones 30 dollar tray in.

For a nitrous motor, Hellfire rings are pretty good.

Hellfire

Total seal plasma moly classic or speed pro plasma moly

AChotrod 12-21-2010 12:28 PM

Did you guys use file fit rings or pre fit rings?
Also looks like Jegs has a decent oil pan on sale for $169 but doesnt look like it has an oil sensor hole in it.

The Moroso pan also looks pretty good

Canton looks cool but is pricey

I know Larry runs an oil pan made by "Hamburger oil pans." He seems to like it. Summit sells them, I think.

AChotrod 12-21-2010 01:09 PM

So looking at piston rings are these the right ones I should be looking at?
Hellfires

Total seal

gjohnsonws6 12-21-2010 01:13 PM

file fit, thats why they are .035 and not .030 stock oil pans and pumps work pretty good

AChotrod 12-21-2010 01:18 PM

Now why are some rings like this so damn expensive is it worth it?

gjohnsonws6 12-21-2010 01:36 PM

Call total seal , tell them what your intentions are and they will tell you exactly what to get

AChotrod 12-21-2010 01:57 PM

of course they will tell me to buy the most expensive ones

• Better breakage resistance.
• Improved heat resistance.
• Better mechanical stress resistance.
• Reduced ring side wear.
• Reduced groove side wear.
• Longer service life.

Moe are the ones I linked the correct ones you would buy? Any negatives to the Hellfire rings? Would they hold up to street use. I dont want to refesh the motor all the time.

Im also looking at splayed caps for the build. Does anyone have the part numbers you used
Pros and cons of each?

Not sure which one will fit a LT1? Hopefully he chimes in with a PN

AChotrod 12-21-2010 03:12 PM

Splayed caps and studs ordered so never mind that question.

BizZzatch350 12-21-2010 04:42 PM

Mike,

I called Stef's and had them build the pan for my 93's next set up.
