Should I remove the iac and tps before tacking?

To be safe yes. And once it is tacked, I would quickly cool it.

What precautions should I take when taking those off? I've never had to R&R a tb.

its really upsetting they make such terrible tb's for our cars. never thought about tacking mine though, going to give it a shot.

I think the best one out there is, or at least used to be, the Accel/Lingenfelter 58mm...Its pricey, but its a very well built piece. I am going on my 16th year with the thing and never had any issues at all. 54,XXX miles, countless track passes. I'll have to check if they are still available, but you definitely get what you pay for.

...edit...just did a quick search and they don't seem to be available anymore...even LPE sells the Edelbrock version now...

The Holley drives just fine. Like most any TB you may need to slot the TPS and mess with the throttle stop screw to get your IAC counts right, but other than that it's been great.
