Boring and clearancing are the big ones as far as machine work. A good shop knows what to do, including line-honing, magnafluxing, etc.

It's best to just let the machine shop handle the prep.

You looking to do the typical "I want more displacement" build or are you looking to actually do something worthwhile?

For worthwhile you are going to want to add things like square decking, going to want to consider getting the bore rechecked because the final hone should only be done with pistons in hand.

Magnaflux should be done BEFORE any machining to make sure you are starting with a good block. Blueprinting is making sure clearances are all right, you could halfass it and cross your fingers.

Keep im mind my 383 block was already clearanced and .030 over and never run except on the engine dyno. You wont need a half fill and could stay with 2bolt mains but everything else I would do
De-plug block, tap front galleys if not already done, remove cam bearings, wash and fill 1/2 way, hone cylinders minimum with deck plate, re-balance, pin fit rods and pistons and check large end and hone if nessessary, Assemble short, mount pistons on rods, check oil clearance (mains and rods) and file fit rings, Install splayed caps, align bore and align hone mains
