so, a while back i spun a rod bearing in my 97 ss and havent done anything to fix it for a few years, and ive been playing with the idea of just getting rid of it. so my question is how much do you guys think i could get rid of it for as is. i know that parting it out would net me more cash but i dont really want to go through the hassle with shipping and paypal.....i prefer a local buyer.
i would like to do a full build on it myself but im more so thinking about getting a vette. that would probably be a wiser investment for me.

interior is emaculate, still smells like new.
t-56/pro 5.0 shifter.

kyb agx rear shocks/ hotchkiss adj panhard bar
brand new pacesetter lt's
slp loudmouth 1
motor is pulled but still have block intake and all accessories minus a/c
c5 front brakes
ecm and wiring harness still in car
c4 zr1 wheels, f 17x9.5 r 17x11

 

Eh that's a tough one man... you've got easily $3500 or so in mods on it, and the car has to at least be worth 2-3000. Maybe 5k? But then who wants to pay 5k for a car with no motor lol....

 

yeah your definatly right but i just dont think that it would be worth it to get it up and running. i would need new heads, clutch and flywheel, exhaust and probably a whole bunch of misc. stuff. so i think that it would be best just to suffer my losses. and sell it how it sits now.

 

I agree with your thinking, but I would probably only pay about $3500 for if I was looking to buy. With it running, $8000 is not out of the question. Good luck with the sale either way.

 

3500 sounds fair i guess. considering it would take me 4-5 grand to get it up and running i think that would be the best route to take. thanks.

 

Don't do it man, do you know how cheaply you can buy another complete running LT1 and put it in the car then sell it for $8000 or so with the mods you have. Don't give the car away for nothing.

 

If you do decide to sell it let me know, I'd be very interested I want another LT1 car I have two extra motors and ALOT of misc. LT1 parts. Send me a PM if you do decide to sell it.

 

yeah i thought about. 2 years ago i priced a junkyard lt1 for 1750. but on top of that i would need a new clutch/flywheel, and exhaust. plus i deleted the a/c so that cuts the cars worth down a little. i think in the long run profits would be minimal.

 

You can find complete running LT1's for way less than $1700...

 

locally? i live in boise idaho. i dont want to deal with shipping and not being able to see the motor before i buy it.

 

Ive seen couple add's with good running LT1 long block from $500-800 in my area (SoCal).

You should look it up and find out how much shipping is.

 

Why do you think you need new heads? Did you sell them since it went down? Did you ditch the whole stock exhaust system? A stock-style LUK or Valeo clutch can be done pretty cheap if you DIY. Also, expand a little on the "whole bunch of misc. stuff." It may not need as much as you think. If you have the heads you can do a stock rebuild for about $1400.00, get it moving again for under $2000.00, probably.

 

well in my experiance when doing extensive work on cars, you take the amount that you think its gonna cost and multiply it by 1.5. theres always things that go unforseen. hoses, fastners, tools, etc. that may not seem like a lot but it all adds up. i did get rid of my stock heads with the plans to get a set of afr 210's. but that was when i wanted to do a full build. i can do pretty much everything as far as getting it up and running goes. i still have cat back on it but need manifolds 1 o2 sensor and a y pipe. i could use the headers but they wouldnt be emmissons leagal unless i wanted to spend more money. on top of all that i deleted to a/c so whose going to buy a stock camaro w/o a/c for 8 or 9 grand? if it was a full build they probably wouldnt mind.

the reason i dont want to build it anymore is because i dont plan on keeping the car. my long term goal is to get a vette. im thinking about a c5z06, paying it off and someday get a c6z06. so the way i figure it is why am i going to do 20,000 worth of work on the camaro when i could just get rid of it and spend that 20,000 on a vette.

besides the car is in great condition and it would be perfect for someone with a great motor and a not so great car and is looking to do a transplant. trust me i am not a noob, (not saying that i think thats what your saying) i have ran the numbers and they just dont seem very bennificial. besides im not the kind of person that will take shortcuts just to get rid of a car. there would be no way that i would sell my car to someone without full confidence that everything done right......and confidence costs money.

 

around here (chicagoland) you probably wouldn't get over $2000 for car with no engine....Personally you'd make a bunch more by parting it IMO

 

Ok, definitely see where you're coming from. I was thinking bare minimum to get it roadworthy so your only hurdle would be selling it with no AC. I agree your best move would be selling it whichever way you see fit; as parts or a deluxe roller. Best of luck with the Vette search.

 

$8k in running condition?! $3500 as is?! I probably couldn't get 8k for MY car!

 

around here one of those cars in good shape with ~100k miles will go for around $6-7k.
