Like someone else said, check your freeze plugs, they are there as a safety feature incase your engines coolant freezes, these will pop out...better these than the block. New ones are a couple bucks at autozone. If this is the case, consider yourself lucky...although depending on what freeze plug, you may have to remove some accessories or pull the engine.

FWIW it does not matter if it is -3 with 0 wind or -3 with a wind chill of -200 -3 is -3 wind chill is a cooling effect not an actual temp changer

Actually wind chill is used for human heat extraction rate. More wind faster heat is extracted. Same principle with other stuff and materials but the measurement of wind-chill was intended for humans not metal. Wind speed will cause quicker heat extraction and long exposure time to air temp but yes -3 is -3 lol.

If your going to be somewhere where its more than -10, for sure lix your coolant for -50ish. Wind has an effect on how rapidly and how cold things wil get. A block heater never hurt nobody either. I'm working in north dakota right now and it gets cold as a ************, especially int the wind so yeah I know about what you are talking about being too cold to work on a ****** car.
