Default Rearends

I currently have the 2.73 rearend in my car, and obviously am not pleased. I am gonna do gears, I am just curious weather I should go 3.42, which I have available to buy right now(stock ten bolt out of a 6sp.), or if i should wait and find 3.73's installed in a stock ten bolt. I have very slight mods right now, and only intend to do the LT4 Heads/intake/hotcam conversion, with a 3200 vig stall, and possibly a small spray. Would love to get some opinions on what you guys would recommend I do. The 3.42 available is my friend's, 37000mi on it, $250.

I'd go with the 3:42's. Thats a good price and they have low mileage on them and I'm sure your buddy isn't going to rip you off. You're going to feel a difference with either of them, but the 3:73's won't be that much of an advantage over the 3:42's. You'll also get better gas mileage with the 3:42's in your A4. I'd definately go with your buddies.

Definitely 3.42's. Keep in mind that a 10-bolt can break with a stock motor with sticky tires. The HP level is less significant than the shock the rear takes when launching hard with no wheelspin. 250 rwhp will break a 10-bolt on MT ET streets with a few launches. There are many opinions and experiences of others relative to the endurance of the 10-bolt, so your results will vary.

I broke my 10-bolt and upgraded to a Strange 12-bolt.
