Default Emissions/Header Question.....

Hi guys, I just got myself a stock 1995 Z28..I'm planning on doing a bolt on set up for this car..I have Hooker headers from my previous project that I never got to install, My question is I wanna leave the car with it's emissions intact even though it's not required where I live..I was thinking of Pacesetter long tubes with the A.I.R. tubes and there Y pipe..How many of you are running this set up?? and what did you use as a Y pipe..Can I use the pacesetter Y pipe and weld Hi-Flow cats to it??? Any help would be great if you got pics even better..
Thanks.

Many use that Pacesetter headers and yes you can splice in a pair of highflow spun cats in the y-pipe. Just have to get the shortest length cats to simplify the process.

Thanks, I was looking at the Magnaflow 59959 Center/Center Cat 3" In/Out ..it's only 5-3/4" long..Guess I have to get rid of the Hooker headers...Anyone looking for a set of Ceramic coated LT Hookers..there new and have never been installed...

The Magnaflows you listed are a nice compact cat. id also suggest putting a good y merge in (Magnaflow or Flowmaster), the Pacesetter merge is horrible

I plan on using a magnaflow cat back...but what do you mean my Y merge..are you referring to the Pacesetter Y pipe??? Also what would be a good asking price for the Hookers...there brand new..and are ceramic coated..

Yes the pacesetter y merge is a hole cut into the drivers side pipe so the exhaust gases slam together, decreasing scavenging and increasing rasp. A good merge smooths out the exhaust pulses and increases scavenging so less rasp/more power. The Flowmaster merge is the preferred one by many but the Magnaflow works just as well. Search for those on here and youll see what i mean

Hey:

Here is a suggestion, by some stainless Ebay headers and have the smog fittings, added then get them coated. Any good welder can do it and better and cheaper than some will rust headers. They may be more of a hassle to install but I would not put another pair of p@c*$h!tt*rs on my lawn mower, let alone a nice car. The Y sucks, they rust, even the coated ones rust, more so if you drive your car a lot in all WX conditions. The things they do have going for them is they fit without many mods, prep pretty easy, tuck up pretty good, and do gain some HP, but that is about it, the same for most LT headers. To bad they did not jump on the bandwagon and produce some stainless pipes at close to the same price point as they make the rusty ones, then they would be worth it.

Buy some stainless ebay headers, pre install them, mark them, make any mods/dents you need, add the fittings you want or need (maybe even reuse some of the stainless stock stuff), add some stainless mini cats in the ORY and then send them off to get coated if you want. You will then have some good looking lifetime headers that will need a occasional re-coat when the coating burns off, for around the same price as the headers you were looking at, with the best ground clearance, (if you stagger the mini cats) you can get.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

thanks for advice..but I think it would cost more to do it that way..I'd rather get a set already emissions ready like the pacesetter LT's and make my own Y pipe..or buy the pacesetter one and remove the Y and install the magnaflow one..

Yeh just use the pacesetters with the air and egr and you will be fine. Since you do not need emissions testing any kind of cat will work but the smaller the better to make the construction and clearance better. Im running the fullsize magnaflows only cause i need to pass the sniffer test with my heads cam setup. I wish i could run some small spun cats to help with ground clearance.
