95 camaro carb conversion wiring
alright i bought a 95 camaro 3.8 auto convertible. yanked the entire drivetrain. I have the factory 6 cylinder harness. id like to re-use the factory harness and get rid of everything i dont need in it. id like to make it look as clean as possible. I wont be retaining the factory gauges. so I pretty much just need the basics. the car will be a very clean strip car. 383 lt1, carb, solid roller, nitrous, th350, 9" shotting for 10.0 passes. so no a/c. do i need the computer for anything?

With no EFI, ABS, electronic trans, factory gauges, or airbags, I believe all you'd have to do is swap the opti for a traditional distributor and you wont need a computer. I'm not a PCM expert (someone who is feel free to chime in), but I believe at that point if you keep an opti you need the computer to read the optical signal.

yea id like to use a conventional distributor i just would like my convertible top and all my interior peices to work as they should. also all my blinkers and lights, etc... so i can just ditch my engine harness then?

I'm not 100% positive but I'm pretty sure the computer has no interaction with the distribution block for your chassis wiring. I'm pretty sure it's 2 independent wiring systems. The key however, communicates with the VATS to the computer. I'm not sure if the power to the factory starter is run through that though.
