optispark confusion

Default optispark confusion

so my optispark went out and i bought a new bought a new one and they didnt look the same so i went and bought the vented style, which also doesnt look the same as mine.. so mine looks like this


and i have both these..

which am i supposed to use and what am i supposed to do so that it will work? im totally confused and frustrated i havent had a car for a week while waiting on the parts, and now they are here i am completely lost! i want my car back!

The one to the right is the correct one to use. Yours just doesn't have the spline drive in it, it is probably still lodged in the timing cover. No big deal.

so how do i remove it i tried pulling on it... it didnt seem to want to come out??

oh and do i remove it from the new unit and leave the old one in, or out of the timing cover?

the non-vented distributor that you bought is the correct part. what you are missing out of your original, is the actual splined drive for the distributor, its probably still sticking out of your timing cover. If its not, dont worry about it, the distributor that you bought already has the splined drive installed, so you are good to go.

Pull out whichever is easier (old or new, doesn't matter). Hopefully you found the answer you were looking for.
