Question jacking the motor up for longtube install

so I'm trying to get a set of hooker supercomps into my car and so far I've been jacking the motor up with a piece of wood across the trans, oil pan and flywheel cover. the flywheel cover got bent up pretty bad so I took it off to hammer it out and saw the torque converter right there which looks pretty damn sturdy. can I jack my motor up by the converter? or am I better off from somewhere else?
Also in regards to these headers- what a bitch! I've had the driver side of the motor jacked all the way up and they still wont fit! the guy who had them before me welded the slip tube in place so i need to install it as one piece and I have no idea how he got them out unless he has a lift or a cherry picker. so far I've only been brave enough to unhook one of the motor mounts b/c I'm afraid I wont be able to get the block back in line. any suggestions?

They should literally fall into place if you jack the motor up on either side. Are you using the Race or Emissions style headers... if you have race you should be fine. I know when i put my pacesetter lts in i did the drivers from the bottom without jacking the motor and the passenger by jacking up the motor and literally slid right into place.

DO NOT lift the motor by using the torque converter as a jacking point!!! As for jacking put dont put it on the oil pan either they are weak and a royal pain to chance while in the car.

Remove one motor mount bolt at a time. Did you remove the steering knuckle before trying to get the header in place? Use the oil pan with a 2X4 to jack the engine up. For the passenger side you shouldn't have to jack the engine up if you have the car up high enough.

I finally got the driver side in! had to hammer the firewall back a little bit. the 2X4 bent the oil pan a bit... about 1/4 inch or so? is this a huge problem? I've heard with enough patience the oil pan can be pulled without lifting the motor. is this true? Any suggestions?

Oh man your poor engine. No the the engine must be lifted to remove the pan, also have to turn the crankshaft so the timing arrow is pointed up.

I wouldn't worry about that, mine's worse and it seemed fine with 230xxx miles. Whoever had it before obviously had the car in the air before and came down HARD.

I didn't jack anything up when I did my hooker supercomps. Had bang in the floor board on the passenger side and remove the steering knuckle but moving of the engine.

Did you use a 2X4 long enough to extend over both sides of the pan? It's quite possible the pan is now bent up against the pick up which could possibly lead to oil starvation issues.
