solid roller

my motor has a solid roller in it and im looking to step down a little since iti s a 265 273 @ .050 id like to step down to something like a 250ish cam. can i use any old SBC cam? or does it need to be LT1 specific?

I have a Joe O spec'd LT1 billet erson solid roller cam for sale if you are interested. The specs are
257 266 @.050 106lsa .640 lift intake and exhaust with 1.6 rockers. I have the exact figures if you are interested. The cam was installed but never used as I went a different route with the engine. $200 shipped.

T oanswer your question. It will need to be LT1 specific cam as I believe the front of the cam is a little different.

You can use a traditional SBC roller cam. You'll just have to get it machined for the optispark. The cam I have is a mild Cam Motion cam. Specs are 248/250 .650/.610 on a 112 lsa.

here is the rest of the combo.....

383
AFR 210 heads
13:1 compression
srp pistons
eagle H beams
eagle forged crank

th400 stall TBD
3.25 gears
325-50-15 mt et street radials

80% street car

thats part of the reason for stepping down in cam the 265 273 @ .050 cam is to big for what i want to do with the car. that and the 2 bolt block even with ARP bolts i don't think will like to be shifted 7500 + like the heads and cam will want.

newbie question i guess, whats the advantages to going solid roller?
valvetrain? do the lifters collapse or something?
if so i thought theyre were companies out there making stronger parts for high revs?

lordrazo 02-27-2011 08:48 PM

what rockers are you solid roller guys using ??

Money1 02-27-2011 08:56 PM

Not at all. In that case all you need is a roller cam (cam that uses a cam plate to stay in place).

Stud mount. IMO I don't think shaft mount is necessary unless going over 7000rpm.

Able to run a far more aggressive lobe and the valvetrain will remain stable.

The reason for the gear is it was going to be a boosted sbc now it is a lt1 later it will be a boosted ls

The front of the cam needs to be back cut for the retaining plate in on the block. You cant use a cam button on these motors. So I'd say no.

Whats in it for a rear end??

Wicked94Z 02-28-2011 11:17 AM

3.25 sounds like a 9" gear for sure... I'd be swapping that out in a hurry

If you're looking to buy a LT1 specific solid-roller, I've got one for sale thats pretty close to what your looking for. Specs are 248/255 @.050, .640/.652 lift, 106 lsa. PM me for more info if you're interested.
