Default Dead opti?

I've got a 95 LT1 in a 88 RX-7. Anyways, I decided to take it for a spin today. Fired right up, ran great. Got about 10 blocks into my drive and the car just turns off while coasting down a hill and would not start with letting the clutch out in gear while rolling. Pulled over and discovered somehow the 5 and 7 plug wires had come off the plugs, 5 just hanging there and 7 was still on the plug just unclipped. I figured that was it so I clipped them back on and the car would not start. Definitely getting fuel but no spark. Just cranks and cranks.

When I rebuilt the engine last summer I replace the cap and rotor with MSD units, but the car sees 6400-6500 quite frequently. Could my opti have **** the bed? Is there a good way to test it so I don't have to rip it all apart to find out its good?

did you pull a wire off to verify you're not getting spark to the plugs?

Yup, zero spark. I just left it alone for a few days while thinking about it. Went out there and it cranked right up and started. I was confused so I started looking around with it running and the opti harness looked kinda crooked(the connector has been cracked for well over a year). I touched it and the car turned off and I couldn't get it to fire again. I ordered a harness from eficonnection on ebay so I hope that solves the problem.

Check ignition fuses. Same thing happened to me and it was an easy fix.

That's what sucks about not building this car myself, I don't know where alot of the wiring was hidden.

I finally had some time to look over the car today(sucks its in a storage unit, they don't like me working on it). I definitely had the #5 plug wire touch the header, melted a nice hole in it and the wire was showing. Makes sense that it would blow a fuse. I looked over every fuse I found in the car and they were all fine. I wonder if I'm even looking at the right fuses. I can't believe the car builder would hide the fuses. I suppose I'll have to do some more troubleshooting.

Anybody happen to have a picture of what fuse I'm looking for? Who knows if they even used the Camaro fuse panel, this car has a pretty good wire tuck.

Haha, I forgot that with Datamaster I can pull codes. I'll have to see if I'm throwing anything opti related.

Post #3 sounds like a new harness is gonna solve your problem. Make sure all your plug wires are good and in the correct location, and as you already know keep em away from the exhaust!

I already put a new harness in, did nothing. I'm going to do the opti test after work today.

When my opti pooped itself it had similar problems where the car intermittenly shut off and then would just crank/no start, especially when the connector was having an intermittent connection. And another problem when you burn up a wire sometimes the optispark starts grounding the spark internally and causing internal optispark damage. First thing to check is pull a wire and put a spark plug tester on it to see if your getting spark at all now

It was the MSD coil that I had maybe 2000 miles on.
