Yea my brand new MSD opti came apart after 300 miles, red locktite or stronger is all I use on them now.

Now is also the time to make sure every oil sealing surface is good. You don't want to be chasing a leak after you get it in, you won't be able it see/do much about it after it is in.

Since the last time we posted we pulled the pan and installed the Melling select pump and put some Loctite on the Opti rotor. Since I am slow on my port work we decided to go ahead and put the short block back in the car and install the top end in the car. We went back and forth on gasket matching the heads. I went ahead and did it, the ports are opened up all the way back not just at the gasket area like Loyed Elliot says to do. They turned out nice. I only have 1 head close to being done and still have to open up the intake. Its getting a 58 mm TB.

Thanks for the replies. The car is getting Pacesetter headers and the head bolts are ARP. I am having fun with this build and learning a lot from my friend that is helping me. 96lt4c4 has helped me with the entire build and also knows how to post pics so you guys can see the progress. I can’t wait for the day I get to hit the key and hear this car. It should be a really fun car.

LMFAO at the intake in the dishwasher, that's a great idea for a parts cleaner, I love it!
Good luck with the build, that's some timing on the motor letting go.

Every man should have a dishwasher in his garage for a parts washer. It works really good.

Well, Melder changed his mind on the heads. We are now waiting on a set of Advanced Induction heads to arrive so that we can check pushrod length and get them bolted on the car. Here is a teaser picture of what it should look like. The intake is ported, painted an ready to bolt on. Profesional Products 58mm TB as well.

We we etched primed the intake then sprayed it with Duplicolor caliper paint. Seems like some really good stuff. The paint is really good and hard, unlike most spray paints that you can scratch off with your finger nail.

These are the stock heads just sitting on the block.

I'm jealous. I have a 97 SS that I just got. I wanted to stroke it out so bad, but I can't swing the funds right now.

It lives....and this sucker is nasty. We still have some tuning bugs to work out, and the alternator was not charging. The SES light is on and I am trying to scan it, having issues with the ODB1 computer in a 96 car with the ODB2 port. Car has 80 psi oil presure cold and 60 warm idle.

My phone does not do the sound of this car justice...
