what it takes to run 10's

what all does it take to run 10's in a lt1?

Rob 94Hawk 319 Feb 16, 2004 04:27 PM

about 550 rwhp.

Vendetta Feb 16, 2004 04:41 PM

It will take you traction/weight reduction, and a power adder (f/i or n20) or more cubes.

In my NA car I'm going 9.9's at about 3250 with 442 RWHP, but yet the ET show 630 fwhp. For 10's NA a reworked stock short block, hyd roller in the 240's range, ported stock lt1 heads will work, car wight at about 3400. 10's should not be to hard at that point, and this should be streetable.

A nice 355 on gas, thats what I want to do. :) Just build a good solid motor capable of doing 11s na, then go 10s on spray.

9.9 is smokin' fast for a NA 370. Gotta be a cool car. Out of curiousity, what kind of suspension are you running? And what do you mean by "streetable?" Do you mean it CAN be driven or that it doesn't lope like a biatch around town?

Stock type suspension that I built, something like thw wolf setup, I'v run this set up for years. That hyd roller I speak of was not that bad on the street, loped a bit. I really think the soild roller I have now sounds milder

Have you even been to the drag strip with your f-body?

fastta Feb 24, 2004 11:17 PM

I've seen many LT1 guys get into the 10's with not much more than 400 RWHP. 550 RWHP should get you deep into the 10's.

Elysian Feb 25, 2004 10:23 AM

Has anyone ever hit 10's on a stock shortblock? . . . that lived to race another day?

RacinLT1 Feb 25, 2004 08:32 PM

wel i was damn close to the 10's on a stock longblock....about 25 11.0-11.1 runs close. hundreds of runs in the 11.2-11.3 range also.

quite a few guys have gone 10's had the shortblock live, just gotta make sure the tuning is right.

I'd recommend this https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136030 and you wouldn't need to spray either! :burn:

Definitely a unique motor!

Z-Dreamer Feb 26, 2004 10:58 PM

Yes, it's that and about 100 lbs. lighter than an iron SBC too!

Mill the solid domes on the pistons flat for about a 11 to 1 comp, add the right cam, induction and exhaust system and you could make 600 HP on premium unleaded! :burn:
