Default Question about changing the rear main seal

I will be doing a flywheel/clutch install this week and I figured I would go ahead and do the rear main. I have access to Michell online (how to program) and noticed it recommend using a tool to install it. Will this be needed? Or can I just use something to make sure it goes in flush?

I am also debating on changing the seal only or changing the gaskets on the housing behind it as well.

The oil pan will have to come off to change the gasket on the RMS housing.

The seal I bought from Autozone came with an install "tool (plastic ring basically)." It makes putting it on worlds easier and ensures it goes on correctly. Don't replace the housing gasket unless it's leaking.

Thanks for the tips I will check around and see if any of the seals come with the plastic tool. I'm not sure if my rear main is leaking, but the front seal is for sure. So I will probably tear into that sometime this summer before it gets really bad.

Pick up a Fel Pro set from any local parts store such as AutoZone or Advance. They will list 2 options usually. From my personal experience, I don't recommend the TEFLON seal. I tried it thinking it would be a longer lasting part. It was a pita to install and didn't want to go on straight no matter what I did. It ended up getting damaged, and I replaced it with the rubber one. The rubber one slipped right on and seals up tight. As for the gaskets for the seal cover.....I wouldn't touch them unless they show signs of leaking.
