Default Total Nitrous system or Rear end up grade

Just curious, what would you do? I have $2,400 bucks saved up for an upgrade, as of now I'm torn between a total nitrous package including all safety devices from Nitrous Outlet including install, or replacing my factory 10 bolt with a 9". Again I ask, what would you do?

yeah, I went about two weeks ago, on street tires. I tried to launch at 2600 lol. That didn't work out to well. Then I tried around 2100, the tires would just spin until i hit mid second gear. Then I launched off idle and flashed the stall then best 60' I could manage on street tires was 2.091. I ordered some 265/40/18 M/T earilier today from summit, hopefully they will be here by friday.

I didn't even have to finish reading the title. Go with the rear. With the laughing gas you're asking to blow the stock rear to kingdom come.

I say rearend for sure looks like you already have a nice setup NA. Once you get the best E.T.'s dialed in NA you can spray the hell out of it with no worries of rear carnage! Just my 2 cents. I myself did all my suspension first before I build the spare block.

Are you going to use the m/t's as street tires or just at the track? If just at the track you should put them on a spare set of 16" rims and just get some 255/50/16's. They are going to hook better than the 18's. Plus you're going to wear out m/t's pretty quik on the street. That's what I have for the track m/t 255/50/16's on stock 97 5 stars. If you go to the track 1-2x per year stick with your 10 bolt. If you start going often get a better rear.

I don't hit the track often to race, more watching if anything, but I'm pretty sure that'll be changing. More like once or twice a month.

So how do you plan on putting the power down with the nitrous?

You can add N2O to your car but then what happens when your rear end gives out. I would go with the rear end and then you can add all the N2O you want as long as your motor can handle it.

Rear.

I bought my Nitrous Outlet kit over three years ago. Then I realized there was no way I could put the power down and the rear would survive. Now I've upgraded the rear end and actually thinking of installing the kit instead of it laying here collecting dust. All I've heard from my car buddies since 2006 is when are you going to put some tire under the car? Now its possible, get the rear!

I called Coan to ask if there was a problem and they said nope - their advice for launching at the drag strip was not to do a brake stand but just floor it at idle; the car will sit, converter will flash to 3500k, and you'll take off. Makes sense.

On the street my converter is very "all or nothing" when it comes to trying to accelerate off the line. I find that any quick petal stab over 1/2 throttle flashes up the rpms... I have yet to come anywhere close to enjoying/experiencing WOT in 1st gear.

Come back and post your results (and technique) with the new rubber
And if you bust your rear, at least you've got the funds/plan for the upgrade ha.
How do I plan to get the power to the ground? Hell I don't know. Lol.
With street tires I had them all the way down to 24psi. Once I get the Dr's on there I'll update you all with my progress.

You have the cash for a rear now and a Nitrous system can be bought pc by pc. Do the rear while you have all the cash since its a much bigger investment up front.

Def do the rear no question... since you have the money for it now. Actually think back the rear and the trans really needs to be upgraded before you put a decent amount of nitrous on it. My trans lasted about 2 seasons of 100 shot before it started slipping the 3/4 clutch pack. But hell I went through 3 sets of gears also... not because they just failed but the guy I used to install them didn't install them correctly the first two times, then the third time power destroyed them lol. Hell this was before I could do them myself. man hindsight is 20/20.

I've been through two tranny's also. You guys have made a good point on the rear end. I think what I will do is put the DR's on there and "let my car run wild" as someone earlier stated. If need be I can throw the rear end in there later. Nitrous can wait. Thanks for the advice guys.

There's no sadder sight for a 4th gen owner than to be stuck in line because another 4th gen broke the stock rear and they have to push it out of the way . I hate seeing that....

Do the right thing with the cash

Power is useless if you can't get it to the ground. My choice Rearend!

Personally if you aren't gonna do much Heavy racing... I would do the 8.8 swap. The 8.8 has a lower drive-train loss factor. This is because of the position of the ring gear to the pinion gear. Not that a 9" is bad or anything... just one thing to think about. Besides the 8.8 can be built to hold just about anything most of us will dish out.
