Default need help making a list for a dd

what could i do to make my car faster and keep the drive ability of it. i am about to go to college after the summer and need help. it already has a magnaflow catback, k and n air filter(ram air) and a shift kit(idk what kind the owner didn't tell me when i bought it). i was thinking a stall some gears and maybe a cam or heads and a tb or would that kill the milage of it. thanks for your help.

Stall, gears, (on an auto I'd go 3.73), Headers, cam, 150 shot. If you take your time and shop around you can build on a real tight budget. I found all the stuff in my sig used and have a grand total of $1000

turbo it! only makes u use more gas while in boost!

i daily drove my car for two years to college with the turbo, finally the turbo committed suicide and the debris took the motor with it, now i'm limping it around na til i'm out of school and can pull the motor and build it

on a completely stock engine, untouched heads, stock cam, fried piston rings, shitty compression, tune that still needed work, it put down 397whp & 405ft/lbs. after the build with boost friendly cam and better tune i'm shooting for quite a bit more

How much would it cost to put a turbo on it? and what all did you do to your 383 and i don't know who i could get to tune it around here.

and that is the horsepower i am looking for is about 400 to the wheels.

400 at the tire can be reliable if its done right. A good head cam setup with all the supporting mods, and careful attention to detail especially in the area of valvetrain and assembly and it can be reliable.

If you want a list that I personally know works:
1 3/4 long tubes
LS1 lid intake
LE2, Trickflow 21, AI 200, AFR 195 heads
custom cam, something around 220/226 .570 lift good manners
Patriot dual gold extreme valve springs
Comp Ultra Pro Mag 1.6 Rockers
Victor Reinz 5898 head gaskets
Trickflow Chromoly 5/16 .080 wall pushrods
58mm TB
Free flowing exhaust
3600 Yank SS stall
3:73 rear gears
Girdle and stud kit in rear

That will dyno 380+ all day (the auto kills the hp number on a dyno but who cares) and will run mid 11s at the track.

The 10 bolt will eventually explode.

I didn't notice you had a WS6 style ram air so that will work great

The magnaflow isn't known for flowing well but it sounds good. You can install a xutout to run when racing and free up 8-10hp if you like the way it is.

All that stuff ain't cheap. 1200-2000+ for heads and cam depending what you choose.
Stall 600-750
gears girdle etc 400+ install
gaskets seals etc 300
pushrods 80
rockers 330
Springs come with heads
TB 200ish.

These are just ball parks but you get the idea. Add labor if your not DIYing it

Add 7/16 rocker studs and guideplates to that

And a good tune.

And probably 30# injectors and a walbro 255 fuel.pump.

Yes, a cut out. You have it welded in the exhaust...

Start buying the supporting pieces and get the heads and cam last when you have everything else.

A stall and gears will wake it right the **** up and be fun til you do the other things.

Forgt the turbo kit. Unless you can do it yourself its way expensive.
Just google yank converters im sure you'll figure it out.

Motive 3.73s will work well. GM 3.73s even better.

Do you have long tubes or shortys? Hands down biggest mods for an auto car are a stall and gear swap. 3600/3.73 gear

i built my entire set up for $1,900. but like gregrob said, if you don't do it yourself it's gonna be expensive, at least $5k.

If you are lowered, you need LCA's and LCA-reloc bkts. If not a set of LCA's would do fine. SFC's are also a must have.

Performance wise...
A nice mild cam and maybe a stage 1 port to clean them up a little.
The normal stuff that goes with a cam swap like Roller rockers, Guide plates, Push rods, rocker studs, water pump, gaskets.
A set of .026 head gaskets would raise the CR a little.
You have headers right? so your exhaust is good.
A stall is also a must have, somewhere in the 3500-3600 range.
Gears are NOT a must have... IF you have the 2.73 maybe a set of 3.23's/3.42's would help with weight issue. but anything over 3.42's is worthless in a DD stalled auto. (for most people)
that stuff and a tune and you will be fine for a couple of years...after that you can start modding a little more with internal stuff like pistons and con rods.
