only suggestion id make is just dont go too much on the cam.....thats good head flow but keep in mind you have a 7000rpm limit......and those heads will also limit it......dont get over zealous on the cam

A year later! It's dyno tuned! Lol

96 Camaro 6spd with 4.30's

290/198 @ .600 206cc 62cc(no pipe) 2.02/1.60
Ported stock intake
58mm PP TB
Ed Curtis Spec'd cam 244/254 .640/.640 112

Dyno'd:
432/411 @ 5950 thru open cutout
422/403 @ 5950 thru CB

On a Dynomite Dyno. He compared it to a mustang dyno.

I was a bit disappointed with the numbers, but we'll see how it does at the track!

God damn. So much for needing 7000 rpm. Really shows how much those heads are holding you back. Dyno sheet? I bet the torque curve is flat as hell. Where did power start to really fall off?

Workin with an iPhone. Don't believe it'll allow me to post pics.

The Torque curve is immediately over 400rwtq at 3700-5200, and yes, flat until it maxed Tq at 411 @ 5200 and falls off afterward.
The HP curve is strong from the initial 3700 to 5300, then tends to slow off peaking at 5950 and flat lines until he lets off at 6300

Big boy cubes need big boy heads .

I'm sure your power curves are awesome and it's a blast stoplight to stoplight, but a SR 396 is past the point of ported stockers. If it plateaued and held it at only 6k RPM and didn't just drop off, its not valvetrain or tune - the heads are too small. Some worked aftermarket castings like TFS or AFRs will give you a few hundred more RPMs and I can see +20hp to the wheels over what you have. Brodix also makes a nice SBC head that they will convert to reverse cooling for you, and of course we have a massive selection of nasty *** SBC stuff that will work with some machining.

AI has a nice TFS package but they may not want to work with you since you didn't get the cam from them and might want to change it. AFRs can be done up nice by a lot of reputable shops that may or may not have an internet presence - they are huge in the SBC community.

It's up to you to decide whether ~20hp for ~2K is worth it . Keep in mind also if he said his dyno reads similar to a mustang dyno then it will already show a bit higher on a dynojet.

I actually went with a HR set up instead.
But I agree with all of the above.

Dunno... before jumping to conclusions I'd love to see a graph to see what's going on after power peak. There's no reason even with that cam you couldn't see power past 5900rpm even with stock castings with a good port job. That cam is only slightly larger than mine and I'm peaking at 6800 with stock LT4 ported heads.

What runner CCs are your ported LT4s though? His heads are only 206cc, that' small for a 396.

Hell, thats small for a hot 383 .

Ya, if someone doesn't mind, I can email or text a pic of the graph.

Also, feel I should mention this.
Car ran great on dyno day. Drove home about 45 miles(didn't pull I high at all, had my son with me). Parked it for 2 days bc if rain. Then the lady and I decieded to go see a movie in the car.
I took it on hwy about 60/3rd, pulled to 6300, shifted to 4th and pulled to 6300 and hit the clutch. Immediately heard a noise. Pulled over and pulled the valve cover found a lifter collapsed. Did some research and saw that the Comp 875-16 has had problems such as this.
I called Aaron at comp and he shipped me another set, no questions asked. Afterward we discussed why/how it failed.

He said the 875 has a low tolerance to preload. It only required about an 1/8 turn. I had them set to 1/4 or maybe a hair more.
I wouldn't think that would hurt me but hell, I've been proven wrong before lol
