Default Build me a coming home present

Well, my internet here in Afghanistan is horribly slow, luckily I could finally load this page and begin to bother you all. A little background about what I have and would like to see.

95 z28 A4(190K) simple bolt on parts only... LT's, intake, EWP, and ignition.

while I am gone a friend that has been watching my car for me and keeping it exercised started hinting at me rebuilding it. so, after much thought... I want to do it, but don't have a damn clue where to start... so LTX guys spend my money for me.

budget would be about 7,500

want to have a fairly reliable car, run mid 11's, but still streetable.

thank you for any help,
-dave

That's an easy fix. Oh and thanks for putting your life on the line in the sand box! Rebuild the bottom end. ~1200$ for a decent rod and piston combo. ~1800$ for Le2 p&p head and intake including cam. ~900$ for a stall. ~1200$ for a 4l60e rebuild. Then just use the rest to get the odds and ends and extras done. You could really use a built rear, but as long as you don't leave on slicks all the time then with the auto it'll survive for a bit. Suspension will be key for an 11 second on street tires without lots more power. But less than 1k will get you a decent rear suspension set up. And you'll be set.

Like white ghost mentioned the stall/trans rebuild, I would also definitely look into a shift kit being that its auto. My 95 Z28 has the Trans-Go (I believe this kit). Driving a stock auto after beating on a beefy trans is like night and day...

http://www.transgo.com/A1_4L60E-4L65E.html

Definitely look into a stall and trans cooler "while your at it". I would say a built trans would be the icing on the cake for that DD car. Just my $.02...

Ok. Gears are fine. A stall and a 100 shot will make up for the gears and still leave good gas mileage. Honestly I would put a good stall and spray that bitch...until you blow a gasket or lose a cylinder run it like that. You'll have more fun with the build if you do it in small steps. Worse thing that could happen is blow the trans, rear, or motor and you intend to build those anyways. 1500$ and you'll be kissing 11's with a 4k stall and a150 shot and still have some of that hard earned money that you fought for(literally ) sitting in the bank for those little unexpected things like........$5 a gallon gas and speeding tickets. Lol.

ghost, thanks man but in all honesty I thought about that route... really don't want to worry about the car getting home the night I blow it up, let alone running on borrowed time as it is.

going to look into having my car sitter build the 383/trans and order a whole new suspension (everything. everything) and see how far that gets me. whenever the rear goes, if it does... 12 bolt or 9 inch?

Sounds like your on the right track.

383 forged rotating assembly
Send the heads off to LE or AI and have them grind a custom cam
Go with the supporting valvetrain they recommend
Might as well have the intake ported and get a bigger Throttle body
Get a rebuilt tranny (might want to go to the A4 section of LS1tech and ask about where to buy or what parts to install if you're getting someone local to rebuild yours)
Suspension
Stall
Gears
Tune
Injectors
Fuel pump & regulator
Tires

I just added that up and it's approaching $7,500 pretty quick. Depending on the rotating assembly and heads, you could be over that budget on the parts list above. It's amazing how much this crap costs when you pay for it all at once.

indeed the parts add up quick.. i priced out a complete suspension package(basically everything umi makes), and that alone was close to 4 grand, not including any kind of labor or hiccups.

trying to keep it somewhat affordable though, as I still want to grow with the car and don't want it to become an outright track only car right from the start

If there is nothing wrong with your engine spend the money on a good trans with a rebuilt stock stall flashed as high as they can 2400 or whatever (for now)then plan on buying a stall to match what ever engine combo you come up with down the road, 12bolt rear and **** needed to get the rear done and installed. Then start on the engine. I am about to loose the rear on my car and it's street driven on very NONE stickey tires with a built trans and 383 N/A. thing is whining like a school girl on prom night. Do those and then do the engine.

I would say 9 inch rear end. And I still suggest that you build slowly. Start where ever you would like, front, back or middle and start and finish one step of the project at a time. You will enjoy and appreciate it somuch more!!!

update.

Ordered pretty much every suspension component I could find, a new hood from Harwood, Some C6 z06 Wheels and tires, as well as a line lock kit.

now, I am looking towards the Gearing and transmission... what Shift kit? Stall? and lastly cooler? thinking I want 3.73 gears. Probably going to keep the 10 bolt till it pukes I will roll my dice for now. (really I just dont want the project running away from me budget wise)

Also, fuel pump, and anything else anyone can think of for the time being... when I get done with this set of mods I am going to be back here in the 'stan and will have more time to build the motor... so I am just looking for odds and ends things to get for what I already have and to make it complete and have piece of mind.

okay im done.

Like most have said....

Yank SS3600 stall, 3:73's, shift kit, suspension for putting the power to the ground, LE2 setup (ported heads and matching cam), lose a little unnecessary weight, spray a 75-100 shot and run 11's all day. At least with nitrous, it is basically an on/off switch so you can safely drive your car N/A until you wanna kick some *** and hit the nitrous. And of course get a SAFE tune for the nitrous, preferably dynotuned.

if I wanted an LS2 I would ask, "what do I need to swap an LS into my car?"

For the money your looking to put into your car you would be way better off swapping a newer ls into the car, you will never get what you put into an ltx car back out, if it has an ls in it will sell easyer, make more power, thats what i was trying to say. im all about ltx cars but the market has fallen hard on them and they dont sell for very much at all anymore.

Plus if you did some research on this and many other places this has been beaten to death and you could find many diffrent combos what power they made. lt1 383 are a everyday thing and can be build numbers of diffrent ways.
