Oil pressure question I have a 97 formula and my question is when I accelerate hard my oil pressure seems to drop and then rise as I accelerate. The gauge also seems a little erratic. It appears to function fine during normal driving and reads high during cold start-up. It also rises if I raise the engine in neutral or with the clutch in. It only seems to drop under load, is this a possible sending unit failure or could it be something more serious. I have no unusual engine noises and the car runs great.
Well if you had no oil pressure you'd know, doesn't sound serious. When you say drop and rise how much? near the red or near the 20 - 60 psi range?
Like you said i bet you should replace your sending unit. Get an actual pressure gauge if you really want to know what the pressure is.
