The 503 is a nice little cam. There isn't a whole lot of info to go by on your engine to recommend a cam. Compression ratio, flow numbers, auto/manual, gears etc all would help alot.
The 503 is a good mid range cam on stock heads, of course the rpm band would shift depending on how the heads flow.

You are going to see alot of custom cam responses etc. I honestly have nothing bad to say about the 503

The 503 is a cam that is optimized off of stock unported heads, there are better choices out there. See the cam sticky thread in this sub-forum.

could do a cc503 with 1.7 rockers, would bring the valve lift up to .573/.578

Alot of people talk about it but i dont think ive seen anyone do it, you have a good platform to try it out on!

Ill be the first one to say it. Get a custom cam. Call llyod or ai both are great. If u dont have the motor already together. Id go for higher compression then 10.4.. U need try and get it to 11.5 or so.

Definitely spend $200 more on a custom cam that will net you 3 extra hp.

You guys are silly. You are calling a shelf cam a custom cam. If LE tells you to use one of his grinds guess what? It's still a shelf cam. You just paid more for it. Also, show me dyno/track proof of these "custom" cams running better. They are negligibly better at best.

Hell I'm running an LE cam.

I'm going to be running a 503. You know why? Because I had it laying around. I wasn't about to drop more money for maybe 10 more horsepower.

The Formula it was in previously felt a lot nastier than my hotcam car, so I can't wait to see how this is going to turn out.

I would look into the AI shelf grinds. Their 230/238 (.575/.575) has proven to be an amazing cam. With head and intake work you might be able to run their slightly bigger 234/242 (.575/.580)

I agree. There are only a few good grinds that work, whether Comp, LE, or AI or whoever. They are small, medium and large. You and atleast 20-30 others have the same "custom grind", or off the shelf cam. I'm not knocking them because they do produce power. What amazes me is how a little Crane 104227 with pocket ported heads can bust off an 11.4x.

think your confusing custom grinds for LE and AI's cams that they produce regularly. Some of them mentioned on their sites are grinds that they do for certain builds, a Custom Grind is something they grind specifically for you and what you want out of the car. Yes 20-30 people could be running the camshafts on their sites, but if you call in and order custom, unless one of those cams perfectly suits your application, they will grind you one for your needs.

This guy could benifit from this since he wants something that doesnt have crazy idle characteristics and can be used daily. Im not a cam wizard but im sure duration vs LSA has something to do with that, so perhaps a XXX XXX duration on a XXX LSA will give him both power and driveability. Since he has ported heads he could benifit from a higher duration camshaft but ground in a more street friendly manner.

depends alot on how well the heads are ported both of those cams like to rev up high to make power. If your heads are ported good your better off with the cc306.
