Default Mid-level lifters?

Is there anything in the middle ground between an LS7 lifter and Morels? These seem to be the only two lifters recommended in this forum, aside from stock.

I need a new set of lifters and would like something higher-quality than the LS7s but don't wanna spend $500 for Morels. Anything in more like the $200 and under range? Don't want something noisy and I don't want to have to worry about any reliability issues (seems a fair amount of people on here are running into these issues with the LS7s).

Already have a stock set in the engine and they're inconsistently noisy, leading us to think that one or more may be bad. Was just going to go ahead and get a new set. Have brand new custom-length pushrods too so I was hoping for something with stock measurements so I don't need new pushrods too, but I know that's how it goes sometimes.

LS7 lifters work fine for people who set the valve train up correctly.

I used to think they were junk too but they are being used in some crazy setups. You need at least .060-.080 preload on them. If you use too little preload, it will bounce and destroy itself.

Good to know about the preload, thanks Greg.

No thanks, too rich for my blood for this particular engine.

Understandable, unfortunately reliability & performance come with a high price. What's that old saying, "Reliability, power, money; u can only have 2." ahh i messed it up. lol

Understood, and I'm not at all opposed to using them on a higher-end build like my other blower motor, but this is just for a baby-cam (Lunati 60121) stock rebuild with mildly ported heads. Won't be turning much more than 6,000 rpm and really isn't going to make that much power. Hence why I want a mid-level lifter. I'd rather put the money toward making more power at this point, I'm sure there are good, relatively inexpensive lifters that can support my current needs.

Oh your right; I'd just get new stockers if I were in your shoes. Plenty of people have done just fine with them with a similar setup.

I ended up ordering a set of LS7s because I need them in a hurry. I'm not disappointed that I'm getting them, but I was hoping to buy something that's more of an "upgrade" without going overboard. I've just read several tales of failing LS7 lifters on here as well as noisy ones, neither of which I obviously want.

Measure pushrod length and adjust them correctly and they will be fine. The LS7 I drove definitely didn't have noisy lifters... lol

Yeah the pushrod length thing is the only thing that annoys me considering the ones I have now are BRAND NEW lol. Oh well, I know it has to be done.
