Default Are painted headers a bad choice?

I'm strapped for cash, i have a giant exhaust leak and i plan on doing a full exhaust upgrade. My question is how long will the cheap painted pacesetter headers last. I only need a year max and a cheap fix sometime soon. Any other suggestions?

I've got almost two seasons on mine, still holding up well. I don't drive it in winter either.

~Edit, yes mine are rusted also. No leaks yet.

for even cheaper alot of people have been happy with the stainless ebay headers. that is, if you can handle having to dent the tubes make them fit..
i love mine and doubt if denting them made any real difference. still look awsome to

#1 primary to fit around steering knuckle. also rubs against the body a bit down low on the passenger side but i just left that the way it was. also ive heard that it hits the k member but i didn have that issue since i went tubular at the same time. probly just have to do a lil gring on the k member or dent the tube a bit.... torches aid the denting big time!!! these things are pretty tuff

I ran painted pacesetters for many many years and since I was in a dry climate (so cal) they never rusted too much. The trick is to strip them down to bare metal with aircraft remover, then paint them with this stuff. Try to do the heat curing they recommend and it will turn out better and be more resistant to chips n scuffs when you drop them in. Pacesetters probably have some of the best fitment in my experience with 3 different brands.

I'd do painted psetter headers any day over eBay headers... Ease of installation goes a long way.

The paint will come off by the time you drive to the grocery store and look like ***... They work though.

Mine are going to be painted. Granted they're stainless steel underneath, then a coating of the most expensive **** Swaintech makes (ceramic) then paint. I doubt they'll rust

I bought painted BUT i live in Ms so winter isnt a big deal. But for the lq9 I sprung for some coated headers and boy they look 1820039843735647389438 times better than the painted one but thats comparing oranges to apples.

Ash, I guess that's it.

Makes the front look like a 16 and the back a 19 to me. Tires looked huge in rear and small up front, from tire look 1/2 inch away from back of fender well and 3" away from front.

Ive had painted pacesetters on my car for prolly 3-4 years. 2 years of driving in midwest winter then another year or so just in summer/fall season. They still work just fine, yeah there rusted but not too bad. mainly below by the collectors. Arent nearly as bad as everyone makes them out to be. It took a while for them to even start rusting.

VHT has been around for a very long time and if used properly works well, Like said, prep is the key, Back in the day we even tried to coat the Inside of the headders also with the VHT, We bought extra cans, Let the pressure out and kinda poured it in and rotated the headders to try and get a somewhat even coat. then we took a torch, heated the headders up some, and sprayed the outside..
