396 lt1
alright guys i bought a lt1 396 with 11.1:1 compression with stage 2 ported heads with 2.00 int and 1.56 exh. flows 262 on int and 220 on the exh. 233.5/237 lunati cam 112 lsa. shorty headers with cat and borla cat back. ported lt1 intake with 58mm TB with 30 lbs injectors. i want to see if i could possibly acheive 440 rwhp through an auto out of my 396. what mods should i get. i like the cam its very streetable and the compressione ect. i was wondering with a 2.02 valves and getting the heads to flow 280 cfm's could something like this acheive 440? I want LT's and a highflow cat. help me out guys

You are going to need a far more aggressive cam as well as better headers. Right now that engine is having the **** choked out of it with the exhaust. I would at least do long tubes and off road y-pipe. You will notice a huge gain on those two things alone. Next I'd do a cam, larger injectors and a tune.
Are you heads from a local place or well known in LT1 land?
If you have to worry about emissions then getting that kind of power out of your car w/out bending the emissions rules will be a challenge.

uhm i just bought the car and i beleive it was a local guy in iowa or something. but idk guys. i was thinking a bigger lunati cam. more power up high and what do you guys think about shifting up high? with a bigger cam making peak around 6400-6500 shifting at 7k wouldnt be bad. should i go with a bigger converter as well? i have a 2500 right now...like i said i didnt build it but i want to go through and build it my way now. just looking for insight

Displacement alone has nothing to do with what stall speed a converter should be at. Obviously the engine was designed to behave just like stock, safely pass emissions and have lots of torque at low rpm.

I second the exhaust.....I actually like the cam but if ur not gonna spray i would lower the lsa....are u sure the exhaust really flows 220?.....i thought a stock casting ported wont pass 200.....not sure though.

You can make a head flow whatever you want on a flow bench by toying with the bore size, fixture, pressure settings, and various length pipes.

You're going to have to make some serious changes to see that 440whp mark. Changing the cam, fixing the exhaust, and changing the converter should be at the top of your list for starters. Post up the head info too.
