my car has about 61,000 miles on it.. ive been thinking i should replace the opti because whenever it rains the starts to misfire. but when its dry out i never have a problem. should i just get a whole new opti or just go with a cap and rotor?

I'd advise you find the actual problem before blaming something and replacing it.

What year is your car, because if i remember right(someone correct me if I'm wrong please) the 95 and newer opti have a vacuum port that allows the intake vacuum to scavenge out any moisture so they tend to last longer...I do agree with what he said ^^^^^ though, Find out whats wrong first before you spend a lot of unnecessary time and $$$...Good Luck

I have a 97 trans am. its gotta either be water getting into the opti somehow or one of the plug wires were loose. but i have checked the plug wires recently and the are all tight. any ideas or opinions on what it could be? i planned on getting a msd opti and coil eventually so why not just do it now and potentually solve this annyoing missfire whenever it rains.

bowtiegirl is absolutly correct on that one but if you have a 97 it should be vented..........def sounds like a moisture issue........is your fresh air hose to the opti hooked up to the intake elbow as it should be? also is the vacuum line hooked up from the intake manifold to the opti so it is constantly moving air through???

While it may be the opti I wouldn't be so quick to fault it. An opti with 61k on it is still a pup. I changed my original one at 15 years and 109k miles old and there was nothing wrong with it. Now it's my spare.
