Default Alternator valve cover interference.

Frankenstein's alternator is hard against the valve cover. Anyone have a stock alternator they could measure from just behind the cooling fan to the back of the rear end bell? Mine's about 4 3/8" long.

Al 95 Z28, it's alive! GM AC compressor seals work on the steam pipe! The trick is waterproof valve grease to keep the banjo bolt from tearing up the rubber.

What would the measurement tell you?

The most popular fix is to grind the back of the alternator to fit.

Well I got 5" 1/8ths, from the back to front not including the pulley just the cooling fan. There is a protuberance in the rear center which might get in the way of a taller cover? That makes it 5" 5/8ths long through the middle of the alternator, not including the pulley just fan.
Hope that helps.

EDIT: Noticed you said just BEFORE the fan, that would make it 4" 3/8ths long. Through the center It's about 5" 1/8ths, no fan.
