Default engine mount...

so i believe i have a bad engine mount. whenever i stomp the gas and shift into second theres a thud and you can feel it come through the shifter. i climbed under the car, the transmission is firmly in place, that sucker will not budge at all. so all i can think is its the engine mount. is this pretty much it? is replacing it/them straightforward?

edit: also suspecting the u-joints may be the cause

Did you check your u-joints?

I believe it is the tranny mount. It has the weight of the tranny on it so you won't see it. Take a jack and put it under the tranny and gently raise it, you will see it come apart.

well i had the car on ramps when i tried shifting the tranny, would i still need to use the jack test?

also, excuse my ignorance, but how would i test u-joints?

being on the ramps doesn't take any of the weight of the transmission off of the mount. I would say I was 98% sure this was your problem. Go to advance and buy the energy suspension mount for $28.00.

As for checking the u-joints you have to get under the car and move the driveshaft while checking for play. There are several ways to do this and a few are very dangerous. As I said I would put money on it being the tranny mount!

yeah your more than likely right, i need to go out and buy a jack so i thought the ramps could be a sub for it. im gonna see if i can find some sort of jack and post my findings
