Default A/C problems compressor wont turn on

i have a 1995 Z-28 and with max a/c on it blows hot air and the compressor does not engauge. thinking its a relay i jumped the relay for the A/C compressor. sure enough it turned on but the tepature remained the same i have not put a full charge in the system yet, but i wanted to know if i should check anything else that might cause me to evac the system anyways before i charge my system.

thanks very much

Is there enough freon in the system for the compressor to engage? Have you hooked up gauges to see what the high/low pressures are yet? You need to start there first and this will tell you what's going on. Tell me what the pressures are and ill let you know what the issue could be.

Gotta make sure there is enough freon in the system first like stated. Buy a gauge and check it.

If the compressors not turning on then how do you know there is enough freon in the system? Without the compressor engaged then the pressures would be off and sometimes the system wont take freon witout jumping he compressor. I hope your systems were vac down because air in the system could prevent the proper amount of freon to be added and prevent the compressor to engage due to the lack of freon. Gauges are need to diag this system

Got the same problem here, a/c system is fully vacuumed and charged but compressor only engages when the relay is jumped. Already changed the orafice and pressure switch, kind of at my wit's end with it.

could be a bad pressure switch.
