gas mileage
what can i do for tuneup that will get me back to ok mileage? I'm getting 14mpg on a 3000 torque converter mail order tune and 3.23 gears. what could cause this? stock a4s get like 17/25. I have a hard time believing it got that bad from the converter
Maybe its time for plugs, wires, filters and all the usual tune up things. My old A4 formula never got above 15. But I drove her a little hard.
Oh and seafoam that bitch. Worked wonders for my gas mileage.

As said do a good tune up on everything and go from there. Bigger converters will eat some of your mileage but you should be able to get a little more out of it. I love my 6 speed and 4.10s i still manage to crack 26/27mpg on the hwy with my new current built motor in below in sig.
What kind of day to day driving are you doing? Lot of stop and go with that converter will cause that kind of millage. Stock converters are around 1650rpm stall speed (+or-). As far as tune up make sure your Front O2's have been replaced at some point as well.
With 3.73s and a 3600 stall when I was still living in NC, I was seeing low to mid 20s... and that was driving it pretty hard.. but that was on 93 gas and new brakes/tires/less than 60k on the motor.. etc... but mostly steady driving..
Now in CA, running 91 gas, and less than good tires/brakes/etc and 170k, I'm getting between 14-17, but lots of stop and go traffic out here..

its very possible for city driving.......issue is the mechanical leverage in the drive train isn't there with a low gear so it puts more stress on the converter making it stall at a higher rpm when driving normally.......i drive a 5300 around with 4.56's and its not bad........if i had 3.23's it would be like driving a wet sponge lol
