Rick Abare, Ed Wright, Jeff Green all run 4L60Es.
Jeff's Impala makes probably three times+ what your current setup does NA. Rossler does his tranny work.
Impala with all the comforts intact trapping near 160mph last I heard, believe he broke at the Shootout though, something about a Nitrous solenoid failing and the extra fuel blowing up the exhaust system.

The swap can be done. Its going o require a small hammer to "massage' the tranny tunnel. Once thats done your going to need a tranny controler to shift it as your stock pcm will not do it. Or you can switch to a lsx pcm and you 'll be good. I'm sure im missing some more work that has to be done but it can. Good luck. Personally, I dont think its worth it.

99-02 LS PCM will run it with a Segment Swap tuned in.
I read on another Forum someone got a 4L80E to work by re-wiring with some Relays and that was it..IMO that is kinda half-assin it cause the Input Speed Sensor is pretty much what controls that Transmission.
**** a 4L60E..ya they can be ran but a 4L80E you can beat the **** out of and it holds up..how often..or after how many runs..were them 60's in them fast cars re-built?

4L80 does not require beating the tunnel to fit. For under $200-400 you can go FMVB and not need anything but a shifter to control it. $450ish and you can get a transbrake.
I did the whole 4L80e swap for a 1/3 of what a Level 3 from Performabuilt runs. It's not for everyone but even the toughest builds can only last so long. A 396 with nitrous would automatically get a TH400 or 4L80e in my opinion. All motor isn't as much of a problem for a 4L60e or TH350. Can the smaller trans handle it, sure, but for how long? A factory 4L80 with a good converter and valvebody can take the kind of abuse a 4L60e dreams about.
Will Rossler build someone a 4L60e if that's what they want? Sure, but has anyone here went and sat down with him in person at his shop and talk transmissions? I did, I talked to many shops about it, and for what I wanted to do the 4L80e was recommended 4/5 times. It's going to take the abuse easier than a 4L60e, especially with nitrous. I'd rather run something at 75% it's capability than 98% of it's capability. Unless your looking for every little bit at the wheels a 4L80e is ideal. Although, I've found alot of info showing cars/trucks going from 4L60 to 4L80 running the same or faster.
Cost vs durability. For me the 4L80 wins every time. If you're interested in what a 4L80 can do vs a 4L60 call up Jake @ Jakes Performance and have a chat with him. He's an honest guy, knows his stuff, and is pioneering stuff rather than copying it. Rossler is a stand up guy as well and I recommend talking to him too.
Just my opinion. All motor the 60 should be decent, add significant nitrous shot, go bigger.

You can make a 4L80E run with the LT1 PCM, just have to do the relay trick, without the relay you have to run a different controller and even then you won't have lock up after you release the throttle.
I know from experience.
