Default Checking LT1 heads and deck for warp

When checking the heads and block deck for flatness/warp with a straight edge. What size feeler gauge should i use .001-.009 exc? Also what is the pass and fail measurements?

You need to make sure you're using a MACHINISTS precision straight-edge. Not all straight-edges have "straight" edges. Anything more than .004" and it should be resurfaced.

i like seeing no more than .002 runout on the head.......usually i mount the head in the bridge port and run the dial indicator across the head.......if you dont have access to that you can do it like joe said........but again make sure you use a percision straight edge

Can you guys get together on this? .002 or .004 I have a MACHINISTS straight edge from Aviation school back in the day.

Agreed with the requirement of proper tools. But if I even question it, send it to a shop, a "clean up" will take as minimal meterial off which will have virtually no difference in the CC and you know its right.

It does not hurt to have a closer tolerance for straightness. For most people .004" or less is fine. For the high performance guys running tighter is preferred.
