I drove it a little ways after the noise started and it didn't change whether the clutch was engaged or not.

yea it sounds like a clutch noise but that doesnt explain the misfiring you were talking about.........get a screwdrive and hold the handle end on you're ear.....use the tip of the driver to touch parts of the engine and see if you can hear the noise clearly.......touch it to the intake manifold.......header tubes.......valve covers.......if you can get the car in the air try the bellhousing and so forth...........

TTT

I'm hopefully going to have time to isolate the problem tomorrow and wanted to see if there were any other recommendations as to where to look for the noise?

It could be leaking coolant onto and into the opti causeing the miss.
Wish I would have listened to this sooner! I used the screwdriver trick to listen and as soon as I put it on the water pump it was obviously coming from there. I checked around everywhere else and got nothing. I changed the opti and water pump last spring so the water pump is still under warranty..now I have to decide if I want to do the opti or not. The misfire seems to have gone away and it's revving smooth, but if the bearing is bad and has leaked at all then I might as well go ahead and change it. Blah. Thought I was going to get out of this cheap but it isn't looking good lol

Thank you for the screwdriver idea, I had no idea you could do it that way. Referring to my above post, as soon as I put the tip of the screwdriver on the water pump it was obvious. Thanks again
