Question Open headers= burnt valve?

So my new 383 is now installed and the computer is now tuned....one last pain in the *** to get it on the road is getting the exhaust hooked up because my 7 qt moroso oil pan interferes with the Y-pipe to my pacesetter mid-tubes. So my question is: How risky is it to drive it (7-8 miles) with open headers to the exhaust shop? It sounds nasty so assuming the cops don't hassle me to badly; am I going to burn a valve? It won't be driven over 2500 RPM to attract too much attention (tags are dead till I get it inspected )

you will be fine running with open headers as far as engine issues but the cops are going to hear you coming from 4 miles away lol...goodluck!

I may be wrong, but I believe the burnt valve/exhaust modification was more for carb applications than computer controlled FI.

Ok...good to know...hopefully I won't pass any dick cops on my way; I certainly will be standing out like a sore thumb driving a plum crazy purple formula with no exhaust whatsoever That would be a real pisser to get a ticket AND have to get it towed.

maybe see if you can get that awesome free towing; 50 miles for my insurance. get it to the shop, safest bet... I ran my car around the block with my open exhaust and i swear to god every cop in town was on the side of the road.

I ran open headers for several months when I couldn't get a Y-pipe for my car. You'll be fine. That was several years ago even.

That's old timer folklore. How exactly would it burn a valve? I've run open headers on a dozen different cars and never had a problem.
