Default Cam for 383?

What would be a good cam for a 383?

I'm looking at one right now thats basically a GM 847 with more aggressive lobes and a 110 LSA.

I want 420+rwhp if possible.

The heads are Lloyd Elliott 271cfm/192cfm @.600 lift

I have all the bolt ons including Hooker LTs and true duals.

People comfortably run a 230/236 cam on stock cubic inches. If you went simply by a ratio of cid/duration, a 383ci motor should be able to run a 250 degree cam w/o much trouble. I'm not exactly sure this method of reasoning is totally without its flaws. Someone else have an opinion about this?

Gripenfelter . . . do you have a dyno graph? #'s? I'd be interested in knowing what kind of power you're pushing.

I would use a comp cam 230 intake 236 exhaust at .050 with 1:6 comp pro magnum roller rockers lift.544 intake and .555 exhaust with 112 LDA since you hav an automatic trans you will need a good stall converter .I don,t know what diameter springs that you have but if you have,nt cut the spring seats I would go with comp 918 springs with steel retainers as they only weigh 8 grams and would be very durable. They will go in your heads without machining ,but check your seals for sure. This combo will make about 480+HP flywheel. This is about as big as I would go, a bigger cam will not always make more power, you might gain a little HP at the very top but you,ll lose torque at the RPM that you drive most of the time. This is a pretty big cam for an everyday driver!!I guess you have headers and a good exhaust ,bolt-ons,etc.This combo should make 400rwhp I beleive ,that cam will pull hard to 6000 and rev to 6500 with those 918 springs. You,ll have to tune the computer too! Install at 108 atdc or110atdc if you want more top end power.

Well thats pretty close to what I made with the XE 230/236 and a 3200 high stall. http://members.shaw.ca/desiz28/Dyno.wmv

I was around 380+rwhp. I'm higher now with some better tuning.

I'm looking for 420+rwhp now.

Chris Bennight did it. He is one of the moderators on here. All of us lived in College Station Tx at the time so Chris had the opportunity to drive the car while he tuned it. It was not a mail order tune.
