I need advise on a rebuild
OK so I overheated my ol LT, cracked a head or blew a gasket?? I have priced the machine work, and parts, without a head. $2100 to $2500 is this normal???? $2100 is stock, $2500 is a 383 build.
lol thats one cheap 383 build unless you have a forged crank and a set off rods laying around. My guess would be that the 383 price is for a cast crank which would not be recomended if you have future plans and also the cubes alone wont net much with out a good set of heads.
Thanks for the feedback, I have NEVER been a fan of the 383, My beliefe is if you want big? just do a 406 SB, but thought "why not try it" so Nix that thought. I guess prices have changed dramaticly since my last build, 5 or 6 years ago.
What does that price include?
Truthfully 383 cubic inches is not big at all. Considering the minimal amount of machine work that needs to be done I'm surprised more people don't do it.

If you need to buy a crank I would buy a forged 3.75 instead of a 3.48. It is completely stupid to do like so many do and buy a cast 3.75 just to get the cubes and then further cheap out on the topend.
A 383 can be great if done well, only problem with them is so many are done poorly like the one this shop wants to sell you.
Far as a 406 instead of a 383, maybe you can get some nice camel hump heads 3/4 racecam, and cut the cowl for the carb and maybe a points distributor and then get your *** handed to you by the average cam only LT1.
