Default LS1 steering shaft

My current stock steering shaft is still rubbing against my headers after much banging, and grinding on both the headers and the shaft. I heard that the LS1 shaft is less bulky and that it needs to be reclocked. Does anyone have any experience with this and what is need to reclock it to work with an LT1? Thanks

I followed a write-up I found on here when I did mine. I think you only have to rotate it 90 degrees, but I could be wrong.

There's many choices avalible for next to nothing at pick n pulls. I've heard of people swapping the steering shafts out of Astro vans into third gen camaros. I'm not sure what the length of the steering shaft is but maybe its the same. Its a lot slimmer than the stock unit

I had to grind down the ears of the spline shaft that stuff out past the hole (wish I had a reference pic). I then hammered the shaft apart, used the stock LT1 shaft as reference and using two screw drivers I lined up the holes of the two ends. Then just slid the two pieces of the shaft together and tack welded it.
