Like the title says im looking for a new starter, my engine is around 11.2:1 compression. My stock starter worked fine but I can feel it getting a little weak.

I have a tilton severe duty behind my big block. Been 3 1/2 years with no problems. I had a powermaster mini behind a mild 350 in my s10. Bought it used off CL and had it 5 or 6 years with no issues.

Im running the factory lt4 style starter. Its gear reducted and compact. Thing starts my 12.0:1 very easily with no probs.

the nippon denso style is the way to go. Powermaster XS (not recommending them) or their look alikes are all modded nippon denso units. Get a jegs or summit brand lookalike and I'm sure it would work great!

One thing to look out for on the Denso style starters is the water drain. Most of the "clockable" Chevy versions of this starter have the water drain on the housing blocked shut. This will cause an early demise for the starter compared to a factory install with the water drain fully functional. It is in fact what killed the Denso starter in my IROC. Went to LT4 starters after that and haven't looked back.

Stock starter with upgraded battery cable will handle a LOT more than people assume.

I went back to a stock starter after my Jegs mini died, it lasted less than a year.

People often blindly assume stock is bad, but the target service life is a LOT longer on stock vs. aftermarket parts.
