Default Are LT1 starters universal?

So I've got a 93 z28, and a 96 Buick Roadmaster. Both have the LT1, but the starters are different. When I look up the part numbers available for each car, sometimes the same starter will show up for both cars like it will work, but the part numbers and styles are different for each car.

Basically my starter GRENADED from the cold here the other day. I want to know - Can I get any LT1 starter, off an F body, or a Caprice ect and use it in my Roadmaster? It would be awesome not to have to spend $100 on a new one when so many guys sell them off their F bodies here.

Any info is appreciated

Pretty sure any sbc starter will work as long as the tooth pattern is the same as the LT1

They will bolt up, but it's the clearance of model-specific things like exhaust, dipstick, k-member, etc., that you have to worry about.

I used Jegs 555-10001 and while it bolted to the motor and meshed just fine, it's adjustment feature came in handy when I had to clear the dipstick and headers.

Yeah the only notable difference I can see from the product pictures is that the Roadmaster starter has a hole on the end where the drive comes out, and the camaro starter has no hole, but the metal is indented/clearanced for the drive...

Damn... I guess I might have to bite the bullet and just buy a brand new one
