Default No engine crank

Ok, I drove my 1996 Z28 to work this morning ... had to drive to a meeting and then when I get back out it doesn't start. It "turned over" for about a second and then a thud. After the thud, nothing ... not even an attempt to turn over. Checked the belts and looked under the car for obvious problems ... nothing. I'm leaned towards the starter, but I'm still learning about the LT motor so I'm not sure if there's something else I should be looking for. Advise please! I greatly appreciate any help/insight given.

Yep ... It's a stick. I'll give that a try, didn't even think about trying that.
