Default To replace EWP or not

I have roughly 50k miles and 5 years on my current CSR EWP. I am getting ready to make a 600 mile round trip down to Houston for TX2K12 next week. No racing will be involved, strictly going to watch. After lots of searching, I finally found a company who had one new CSR pump in stock. I ordered it today and will have it by Thursday.

Since my current pump isn't giving me any issues, think I should just stick with the old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" saying, or go ahead and swap it before the trip. Either way, I will be taking a spare with me on the trip.

This kind of pump anxiety is why there was just a rather contentious thread on this subject not long ago. Leave your pump in and take the new one along just in case.

Throw it in trunk with some tools and a gallon of coolant.

I will be at TX2K12 also! Don't be afraid to race some BPU poopras while you are there.

That is my plan, just wanting to see what others thought on it too. Awesome man, it's going to be a good time! Eh, we will see. I don't want to risk the chance of something breaking that far from home. But if the pump fails, I can change it in under 10 minutes with all of the room I now have in the front of the engine bay

I agree there is some anxiety behind having one. But honestly, it has been just as reliable as my stocker so far.

Haha, I am sure most of us there will be drunk if we are not participating.

Ive been thinking the same thing with mine also. Im going on the hot rod power tour this year and is gonna be around a 4500mi round trip for me. Are the csr water pumps getting hard to find? Thats what i have and it would suck to have to put a different one in.

Meziere will rebuild their pumps for a flat rate of around $100. CSR should be able to do the same thing?

I spoke with a rep yesterday when I was trying to track a pump down. He told me that because CSRs pumps are American made, they will only purchase American made parts for them. The motors for the pumps are on back order, but they are expecting to have them this week. So hopefully in 2-3 weeks the pumps will be readily available again. I lucked out and found a company who sells them on ebay, and grabbed their last new unit they had.

CSR will rebuild them, but I called them 6-8 months ago and they said the price was around $120 if I remember right, plus shipping. I figured by that point, I would be better off buying one brand new, and then having my old pump as a spare to carry in the car. Especially since you can get a new CSR pump for under $200 shipped.
