Do whatever makes you happy, I would stay with the TA.....Now if it was a g8 well that would be different.

Just like everyones been saying I agree the LS2 is the way to go. Im not sure what your looking for out of the car but I think the gto's are a bitch to get traction with at a track. Like you said though a set of headers, an intake, a tune, maybe some internal engine mods down the road, could make the gto pretty respectable.

That is a great price for the car. Go drive the thing, If you fall in love then you fall in love. If you dont then dont get it. Not sure where you live but would this be a daily driver? IF you have 8k to spend you could always buy a cheap honda and then dump the rest into the trans am. Alot of problems go away when you never drive the thing haha. I bet in the last year ive put 2000 miles on mine or less.

You have to be really dedicated to keep dumping money into an lt1. I thought about selling mine but I decided against it. Im usually the only clean LT1 car at my track and I like that.

I don't know about the 04's but the 05 parts can get very expensive. I have seen first hand the cost of parts on a G8 GT. A foot long piece of plastic intake tubing cost $380, the hood cost $1,350

Newer cars just cost more to maintain and build. ts that simple. Can you get more power out of them mod for mod compaired to our lt1's? Perhaps. But theirs nothing like a car you built yourself and shed blood into.

My friend had an '04 GTO auto that was a factory freak. His regularly beat the '05's after they came out. Of course he beat the snot out of it right away which really helps to seal the rings. He would run 8.6's consistently at our 1/8th track and 13.5's??? (can't remember exactly) in the 1/4. $8995 is cheap as hell.
