Default Steering shaft swap

So, I picked up an LS f-body steering shaft to swap in to my LT car while doing a header swap. I ground off the crimped parts on the shaft and took a brass punch to it to separate it...but no luck. So, out came the air hammer...and still no luck. So, I stuck the shaft in the freezer for a few hours, put a torch on it, air hammer, and...still stuck. WTF? Am I missing something?

Needs just a smidge more grinding done on it. Then put it upside down in a vise, soak the crap out of it with WD40. Tap on it with a hammer a bit, soak again.
Once the WD40 has had a chance to penetrate, get out a torch on it.

WD40+torch+hammer normally works well for me.

You may need to remove a bit more material from the splines shaft... I have done 14 shafts and never encountered this.

Guess I'll grind some more then. I'm afraid I'm gonna ruin the shaft beatin it up some much. I sprayed it down w/ penetrating oil, but if anything was gonna loosen it up, I would think going from frozen to torched in a matter of seconds would do the trick

Default Update...

Ground some more, more heat, and changed from BFH to really BFH...and it finally separated. Took me longer to get that shaft apart than to do motor mounts.

I've only done 1...but it came apart super easy. Not sure what's up with this one.

^ Glad it finally separated. You must have gotten a feisty one.

I ground off more than that & used a 2lb sledge and a steel punch!!! had to smack it pretty good but didnt use heat!! I also removed the Ujoint to get at grinding a lil easier! Just used a punch to set the caps again.
