Default clearance issue

I have just about completed my carb setup on my 94 formula. However i have two little issues not that all the bigger issues are done.

1. when i put the black wiper cover back on, it doesnt give me anyroom for the air filter that sits on the top of the carb. I have a 1" filter which is the smallest that i can find anywhere it there a smaller or different option

and 2. once i get a fix for option one, that hood doesnt close with the air filter on. Im trying to aviod buying a larger hood being i have a predator hood already. If buying a new hood is the answer ill do it but i rather not.

any help ?

Most guys here still run FI. Therefore no one really has an answer for you. It sounds like you'll either have to cut the cowl around the windshield or get a bigger hood. Or you can go redneck and just cut the hood you have now around an air filter and go.

Sounds like you need to make a offset air pan with a drop in element.

i have already cut around the windshield cowl, im just trying to keep the cover for it. i have that part figured out. Just trying to figure some clearance issue with the cover.

i have thought about that and that maybe the next thing im doing. I may even use some tubbing and run a ram air system on there but it will be alot more customizing but it would look good.

i guess im wondering if anyone has gone carb using a ws6 style hood, if they did how did they do it.

the drop base he's talking about refers to the bottom of the aircleaner setup. The last one I dealt with IIRC was like a 1.5" drop. The outer area of the cleaner is lower than the center where the carb sits. It allows use of a 3" element in the same area as a 1.5" element with a straight bottom. It's really hard to describe..

straight

as opposed to dropped

What about a carb hat and then to a CAI or a ram air setup. I know spectre makes one thats pretty low profile.

Yup I was gonna say carb hat....... several companies like procharger and a few others make nice ones for blow thru carb applications... this is how I have mine setup. It's FI obviously but you get the point.... find a good welder get some aluminum tube and have at it....

9" conical K&N air filter resides on the passenger side in that dead space under the bumper...

I have checked on acouple carb hats already. Ebay prices are about 80-90 bucks and i have found others that are $180 - $250ish does it matter on which one i truly buy depending on carb size or no ?

Also, are they all one size fits all carbs or not. This is something kinda new so i know they are amatuer question but i dont feel like throwing parts at it to find the its the wrong one with no return.

I have a 850cc holley double pumper carb if it matters.

90 people opened it and rolled their eyes in disbelief that you got this far before realizing one of the most basic elements of your step backwards.

No I think they either fit a 4150 or a 4500 series carb. So if you're running a 4150 style then buy that hat....

I think i paid like 100 for mine thru pro charger.. its pretty low profile which is why i wanted it... some of em are bulbous...
