First, get all the sensors plugged in.

Then, go over everything including the spark plug wires being routed to the correct spark plugs and the connector into the Opti.

Alternator? Dead battery? Im assuming if you forgot some sensors that you might have forgotten the wire for the alternator

Does it turn over and just won't fire? Or it won't even turn over?

MSD optis blow. When I bought my car the guy replaced it before I bought it, 2nd day I had it, it died. AC Delco is the way to go.

Plug in everything, check the coil, ICM connectors and make sure you are getting spark. Also, check the Opti harness, rotor etc.

well first of this may be hard to believe but when it first fired up i had forgot to put in the crank position sensor, it ran fine idle fine it did pop 2 (figured water or air may have been it the fuel line) times but rev`ed fine. after i shut it down to installed the water pump. then when i tri`d to refire it it just spins i`m thinking the opti i bought new might be a dud. i`m going to pull it back off and reinstall the old one and see what it does. if it still doesn`t crank i`m going to pull the timing cover and see if the timing is off. wish me luck i need it.

I think where you went wrong was replacing the timing chain. You know this is not some import with a maintenance timing belt. Pulling the front of the motor apart just for a timing chain on one of these is foolish. Fine to replace it with a cam swap or something but the project was a waste of time and money. On a stock motor the timing chain is fine for life of the rest of the engine. Bet your slapping noise comes back when you get everything put back together.

Far as the opti, did you take off the cap and check the rotor screws?

One time many years ago I had the engine warming up after major work and it sputtered and died was at least a day before I found one of the female pins on the opti end of the opti extension harness had pushed in and was not making contact. So check all the plugs you messed with, not just that they are seated but that the pins are in the right place and in good shape.
