Default Thoughts on New Engine/Trans Break-in

I will be starting/breaking in the new engine soon. I know how I'm going to break it in but something came to mind. I freshened up my trans as well so I will need to add fluid and test through the gears while on the jack stands. My question is how long is it ok to idle the new engine while making sure the trans is good?

Transmissions don't require a lengthy break-in either. Add 6 quarts of fluid, start the engine, then slowly add the rest (capacities vary depending on pan size, converter size, etc.). Assuming you filled the converter prior to install the 4L60E should take about 10 quarts if I remember right. Then just slowly shift through the gears a few times then check the fluid. Once it's where you need it to be, go out for a spin and hammer on it to break it all in.

The 5 or so minutes idling won't hurt the engine.

A lot of people argue break it & all the guys I know say 2000 to 2500 rpm for 30 mins with break in oil After the 30 mins drain & put fresh oil that your gonna run Then go out and romp on it threw the gears But let it decel too Break it in like your gonna drive it LoL Hell its not a flat tappet motor anyway

That's what I was curious about. I figure it's going to take 10-15 minutes to fill trans and make sure gears shift out. Then shut it down drop it off the stands and start "driving" it.
