Default General Info Request...

Hey, just looking up some info for a friend, decided to just ask.

He recently bought a Z28 with the LT1 (with a carb) and a six speed. He's the third owner, and the first owner did all the modification. The second owner was an idiot who did some stupid things, but that's another story. Im wondering a few things...

He says it's running some aftermarket chip, how can I tell what brand?

Other than that, he's got hooker headers that dump into a nasty Y-pipe to 3 inch flowmaster set up as well as an LT4 hot cam. The car has an O2 sensor issue and seems to be running really rich, but he doesnt know if the car has ever been tuned with the cam. Is there any way to tell?

[Edit] I forgot, where's this car normally run in terms of temp gauge range? He says the gauge normally floats around the middle to right above the middle of the gauge. Is this a normal temp?

Lastly, assuming if the car has been tuned, any ideas on the Hp?

Thanks in advance, this whole GM thing is pretty new to me...

If it has a (carb) i doubt very seriously it has an o2 problem, and i doubt it even has a reasonable use for a chip.. Does it still use the stock opti or does it have a standard distributer?? Give us some more info on the car and i could maybe help you out....

carb + oxygen sensors dont go together. Its kinda like pistons for a rotary engine.... Carburators have no use for an o2 sensor because they are mechanical devices, not computer controlled like injectors.

If you want it to run best, just stick with the carb and have it tuned or **** the carb and get the efi back. That sounds like a pretty goofy car, sorry man.

Carbureted cars don't use computer systems, thus there are no chips or o2s. If it's running really rich, tell him to swap out the carb for a smaller one. Any idea what CFM the carb on there now is?

Your friend will learn that he's made a valuable mistake- Never buy somebody else's project. I'm learning that with the car I have now..
